Premises in Teldeniya are rarely compact. A shop on the main street may have a storeroom at the back of a deep plot, while schools, homes and warehouses further along the Mahiyangana road can spread across several separate buildings. Our cabling designs start from those distances: we measure every proposed route during the survey and keep copper runs within the 90-metre permanent-link limit, moving to fibre or an outdoor-rated link where a building sits further away. Runs are laid in Cat5e, Cat6 or Cat6a as the job needs, each one tested and certified, and hand over labelled documentation so any future technician can trace a fault. On the sloping sites common around the Victoria Reservoir, cable between buildings goes through buried conduit or properly supported aerial routes rather than hanging loose along a wall. A dependable wired backbone matters more here than in a town centre, because wireless coverage in outlying areas is often patchier. The free site survey sets out the recommended routes.
What we plan for in Teldeniya
- Runs between detached buildings on hilly Teldeniya plots can pick up lightning-induced surges, so we recommend fibre for inter-building links or fit surge protectors at both ends of any outdoor copper cable.
- Many shophouses around the town centre have solid masonry walls, so we route cable in surface trunking or through ceiling voids, agreeing the path with the owner before any drilling begins.
- Heavy monsoon rain can flood shallow trenches on slopes, so buried conduit is laid with drainage in mind and gel-filled or direct-burial cable is used for every underground section.
Scope
What structured cabling includes
- Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6a cabling
- Fibre optic installation
- Patch panel and rack setup
- Cable management and labelling
- Testing and certification
- Floor and ceiling trunking
- Server room setup
- As-built documentation
How it works
From enquiry to handover, in three steps
Site survey
We walk the building, plan cable routes, and count the data points needed per room.
Written quote
An itemised quote covering cable, containment, patch panels, and testing/certification.
Install & certify
We terminate, label, and test every run, and hand over as-built documentation.
Pricing
What changes the price
Every job is different, so we quote in writing after a free survey — not off a fixed price list. These are the main factors:
- 1Number of data points needed
- 2Cat6 vs. Cat6a vs. fibre backbone
- 3Floor and ceiling trunking / cable management
- 4Testing and certification requirements
FAQ
Structured Cabling in Teldeniya — questions
Standard copper Ethernet is limited to about 90 metres of permanent cabling plus patch leads, so longer distances need a different medium. Fibre optic cable covers far greater lengths, is immune to lightning-induced surges and is our usual recommendation between buildings. Where trenching is impractical, a point-to-point wireless bridge is an alternative. We measure the actual route during the survey and explain each option.
Yes, and doing both in one job often saves effort. IP cameras run on the same Cat6 cable as computers, and PoE switches supply their power over it, so a single structured layout can serve cameras, access points and workstations from one cabinet. Outdoor camera drops get weatherproof junction boxes, and every point is labelled so the network and CCTV sides remain easy to manage.
Cat5e is the budget option and fine for basic needs; Cat6 is the sensible default for most modern offices; and Cat6a supports 10-gigabit speeds, worth it for server rooms and backbone runs but rarely necessary for individual desks. For most offices we run Cat6 to workstations and Cat6a only on the backbone.
We recommend two data points per desk — one for a computer and one spare for a phone, printer, or future need — rather than exactly one per person. Retrofitting a single missed point after the finishes are complete costs far more than including it upfront.
Cabling during construction, before walls close up, is significantly cheaper per point than retrofitting into a finished space, where cables must be routed around existing finishes. If you're planning a new fit-out, involve your cabling provider at the same stage as your electrician.
Yes. Every structured cabling installation includes termination, testing, and certification documentation. Untested cabling can look fine on day one and cause intermittent faults months later that are far more expensive to diagnose — so certification is standard, not an optional extra.
For a typical 20-person office in the Kandy area, professional structured cabling runs between LKR 150,000 and LKR 300,000 depending on cable type and layout complexity, including data points at each workstation, patch panels, a network cabinet, and testing certification. We provide a detailed quotation after a free site survey.
