When a new shop is fitted out near Gelioya Junction, the cabling is easy to overlook until the Wi-Fi struggles and the billing counter loses connection at a busy moment. A few properly installed data points solve most of that. We run Cat5e or Cat6 to where it matters, such as the POS counter, office desk, CCTV recorder and one or two access points, sized to the premises instead of copying an oversized office specification. Cables are neatly terminated at a small wall cabinet or patch panel, each point is labelled and tested, and you receive clear documentation before the job is signed off. That wired backbone makes the whole network steadier, and it is especially useful in a town where wireless performance can vary. For estate offices along the Kandy-Gampola Road or toward Doluwa, the same approach links stores, weighing areas and managers' offices without relying on long, weak Wi-Fi hops.
What we plan for in Gelioya
- Older shop buildings around the junction often have limited ceiling space, so surface trunking or conduit may be the tidiest route; we plan paths that are neat and easy to extend.
- Estate offices and factory stores can be far apart; runs over about 100 metres need fibre, a switch in between, or a wireless bridge, which we assess during the survey.
- Damp and heavy rain mean external cable entries need sealed glands and drip loops, keeping water from tracking along the cable into equipment or wall cabinets.

FAQ
Structured Cabling in Gelioya — questions
A typical small shop needs points for the billing counter, a back-office computer, the CCTV recorder and at least one ceiling-mounted access point. Adding one or two spare points is sensible because printers, card machines or another camera often arrive later. During the survey, we review how you use the space and recommend a layout rather than a fixed number.
Yes, ideally while the fit-out is still in progress and before shelving, ceilings and final paintwork are completed. Cables can then be hidden in walls, ceilings or trunking along planned routes, which gives a cleaner finish and avoids moving stock later. Tell us your intended counter, office and camera positions, and we can plan cabling around the building work.
Cat5e is the budget option and fine for basic needs; Cat6 is the sensible default for most modern offices; and Cat6a supports 10-gigabit speeds, worth it for server rooms and backbone runs but rarely necessary for individual desks. For most offices we run Cat6 to workstations and Cat6a only on the backbone.
We recommend two data points per desk — one for a computer and one spare for a phone, printer, or future need — rather than exactly one per person. Retrofitting a single missed point after the finishes are complete costs far more than including it upfront.
Cabling during construction, before walls close up, is significantly cheaper per point than retrofitting into a finished space, where cables must be routed around existing finishes. If you're planning a new fit-out, involve your cabling provider at the same stage as your electrician.
Yes. Every structured cabling installation includes termination, testing, and certification documentation. Untested cabling can look fine on day one and cause intermittent faults months later that are far more expensive to diagnose — so certification is standard, not an optional extra.
For a typical 20-person office in the Kandy area, professional structured cabling runs between LKR 150,000 and LKR 300,000 depending on cable type and layout complexity, including data points at each workstation, patch panels, a network cabinet, and testing certification. We provide a detailed quotation after a free site survey.
